GLEASON-PFAUTER is one of the world's leading machine tool manufacturers. The company's main business is the production of gear mechanisms, and in particular building the machine tools that themselves build individual gears. GLEASON-PFAUTER's customer base is in the industrial sector in a wide variety of fields including aerospace and automobile industries.

Founded in Chemnitz, Germany in 1900 as Waelzfraesmaschinenfabrik Hermann PFAUTER, by 1914 the company was making significant exports, especially to the USA. By the end of the Second World War in 1945, PFAUTER had a total factory area of 23,000 m2, 1,200 employees and had supplied over 16,000 machines and over 200,000 hobs. Due to the political circumstances, the division of Germany in particular, the company was moved from Chemnitz, in the east, to Ludwigsburg in the south-west in 1951. Over the second half of the twenthieth century, PFAUTER continued to grow with a US branch of the corporation opening in 1971, a factory in Brazil in 1973 and the acquisition of various gear- cutting companies in Italy and Switzerland in the 1990s. In 1997, the company was bought by the Gleason Corportation in the US. Today GLEASON-PFAUTER continues to provide high-quality machine cutting tools as well as continuing on a path of expansion.

GLEASON-PFAUTER produces a range of products and services in the field of cylindrical gear and Bevel gear solutions as well as Metrology solutions. The company also produces a range of cutting tools and workholding devices for their machines. GLEASON-PFAUTER also provides Gleason Global Services, a 250-strong team of engineers in over 50 countries who provide a range of aftersale services and support to keep the machines working properly.

PFAUTER has currently 1,050 employees and has its headquarters in Ludwigsburg (Germany). Its sales revenue is of 178 million USD and it was adquired by Gleason Corp. for 38,8 million USD.
