Veneer presses for the serial production of furniture are called continuous presses. These large-scale plants can process all types of board material, for example, chipboards, solid wood boards, construction boards, and blockboards. The continuous press is usually part of a production line. The veneer or laminate is firmly adhered to the material under hot steam and high pressure. Depending on the type, feeding and unloading, as well as handling, take place semi-automatically or fully automatically. This allows large quantities of material to be coated quickly and reliably. Surplex offers used continuous presses and other machinery. Used, but of premium quality!

Continuous presses are machines used during the processing of wood. They are mainly used for finishing, turning wood of inferior quality into an upscale product. This is done by pressing and gluing very thin wood veneer technology on a poorer quality base material. The result of this process is an affordable, highly aesthetic wood product, which maintains an elegant appearance. The use of a continuous press makes it possible to mass produce visually appealing wood products, like laminated floor boards or chipboard furniture. Another term for a continuous press is a "veneer press".

  • Continuous presses can be fed manually or automatically.

Continuous presses work using high pressure, superheated steam and adhesives. The piece of material to be coated, the veneer panel and the binding agent are fed simultaneously through the continuous press. Two heat plates quickly put high pressure on these materials, which are layered upon one another. This results in the base material and the upper layer of veneer being strongly bonded together.

BÜRKLE Continuous press in use

Continuous presses can be fed manually or automatically. For both small batch production and mass production, the loading and removal of materials from the continuous press must be done by qualified specialists. Important information should be passed onto assistants. The most important piece of information is that materials have to be evenly inserted into the press to ensure that the heat plates and the press do not jam. Safety measures are necessary when using the press due to the amount of pressure, heat and emission of solvents. There also needs to be a ventilation system in place to filter out the hot steam. Maintenance and upkeep should only be undertaken by qualified machine fitters. Parameters such as duration, temperature and pressure settings can be input into the press for optimal outcomes. These inputs are material specific and are displayed in tables, however, experienced workers are needed to fine tune these settings when required.

Continuous presses are necessary for the manufacturers of wood products. Saw mills, manufacturers of chip boards and manufacturers of furniture would benefit by incorporating this machine into their factories. Known manufacturers of continuous presses are: WINTER, WEINIG, WEHRMANN, JOOS, KUPER und SIEMENS
