Handling equipment for industrial manufacturing

Handling equipment includes machines and devices used to ensure that materials are successfully transported to the processing sites. Handling equipment is primarily used in the automation and drive technology industries. They are operated using programmes, which means that loading robots for a bending press or dosing system can be adjusted accordingly.

Another associated device are the "pick-and-place applications", which use a gripping tool to pick up the material and place it in a fixed position. Parameters are either installed manually or using a positioning system.

This system allows for the machine to conduct very monotone or strenuous work. There are a lot of types of handling equipment to fit the range of areas of application. The most important difference is whether it will be implemented for stationary or mobile use. For example, in stationary systems, the manipulator is set up with a column similar to that of a crane's column. A rail system and corresponding supporting structures eliminate the need for a manipulator and can, for example, be used for two machines.

Contrary to this, mobile systems are used for a variety of different work stations. The manipulator runs along a rail system, or another type of support system, and can cover the whole processing area. Handing equipment is most often pneumatically operated. Complex systems can be operated using programmes that can be installed and saved.

Areas of application and examples of handling equipment

It is important to find a way to streamline processes in industry, in order to reduce the amount of monotone, difficult and dangerous work conducted by people. This can also often mean quite simple tasks, like picking up materials from the warehouse and bringing it to the machines. These machines can then be triggers with a sensor to automatically clamp in the workpiece. Industrial robots and insertion devices are ideal for this kind of work. A further important use of handling equipment is for dosing systems. Resin casting equipment have a dosing head that can dose two components simultaneously. The dosing head can move freely in all directions and therefore can pour several different workpieces right after one another. A further example is the handling gantry robot that is used to load and unload CNC-operated lathes.

Tool handling systems can effectively sort and stack workpieces after they have been processed. Especially heavy presses are usually equipped with handling systems, in order to quickly and safely take the pieces out of the press and transport them away.
