Regarding the assembly of printed PCBs, PCB assembly is a process that is classified under the heading "Electronic Manufacturing Service". This term includes the processing of orders for electronic components, systems and devices. EMS providers mainly operate in their factories in Asian countries. In these supplier's locations they conduct research, marketing and sell their products. The manufacturing is usually outsourced to Asia, where a

The SMT assembly and SMD-soldering are often integrated into a fully automatic assembly line. The THT assembly usually occurs after the SMT assembly, to fix very fragile workpieces onto the PCB. This is also the case for connecting cables and cable connectors. These fully automatic assembly lines for SMT assembly are adjusted for special series manufacturing depends on the type of product. The operation is usually conducted by computers that are programmed according to the requirements. A loading machine for PCBs consists of a component supply station, a machine table for the PCB and several loading heads. An integrated camera system checks the position and the state of the workpiece, and adjusts the loading head when required. Printed Circuit Board (PCB)'s processing When the PCB is fully assembled, a special transport system places a new unassembled PCB in the correct position. The loading machines are mainly made out of a variety of components, which allow them to be ready to quickly adapt to new production processes.

The mass production of radios and TVs began in the late 1950s and 60s, which is when PCBs were still assembled by hand. At the end of the 1980s, the computer industry was at the stage where computer-operated loading technologies (e.g. SMT assembly) where used. This technological framework is always becoming more complex, and now even more complex PCBs with several layers can be automatically assembled. The components are becoming smaller, so that even established machines can profit from miniaturisation.

The fast and advanced development in the electronic industry means that there are always new areas where industrially manufactured PCBs could be used. Assembly machines need to expand in line with these developments. Therefore, PCB assembly has progressed very well due to the excellent results in the nano industry and precision engineering, as well as computer technology. Computer circuit boards, circuit boards for mobile phones and other products can be realised by automatic PCB assembly. Every car and most machine tools currently contain PCBs, that monitor specific operational and controlling processes, or that are used for data collection and analysis.
