ELU MOF 11/2 Router

A router operated using an electric motor can be used in a variety of ways for the machining of wood and other materials. Generally, a router is applied to a workpiece from above and manually guided over the workpiece. In addition to the hand operated process, various models are stationary, like a drilling machine on a drilling stand, or screwed onto a machining table. Routers used for DIY have an engine power of 450 watts. In the professional sectors, the engine can have a power of between 1100 and 1400 watts.

Routers are popular amongst carpenters for their large spectrum uses and their flexibility. A stably built router can create accurate wood joints such as mortises and tenon joints, as well as dovetails and zinc compounds. Routers can also be used for processing edges, milling grooves, engravings or the smooth attaching of work tops using router templates.

BÄUERLE Router in use To choose the right model for the required application, there are several criteria that are particularly important. Very accurate work can be undertaken as it can be precisely adjusted. A stable and durable construction is particularly important in the professional industries when processing heavy workpieces. In order to ensure full use of a router, it is important to note the wide range of accessories. These include router bits, copying rings, routing templates, moulder fence, chucks and spare parts. There is a large range of cutters available for the different types of work. In principle, the cutters can only be split into two categories.

This includes immersion mills that approach the wood workpiece directly from above. For example, engraving and milling cutters that are used to process edges. Due to its smoothness, it is recommended to use eight millimetre end mills. The materials used for the milling cutter determines the quality and cutting performance as well as the price. High speed steel (HSS) as a milling material costs only about half of a carbide-tipped milling cutter. The higher price for a carbide-tipped milling cutter is due to its longer working life span and its ability to be used for a variety of tasks. It can be used for soft wood, hardwood, chip board, plywood and even aluminium. Using only a few milling cutters, most necessary work tasks can be completed. For example, slot cutters with a diameter of 5, 10 and 20mm can be used to produce slots with a diameter of 5 up to 40mm; one just has to mill into two openings. For the processing of corners, it is necessary to have a rounding cutter with ball bearing. Using this it is possible to conduct initial work with a router safely.
