MIKRON Machining

MIKRON is a world leading supplier of machining and automation solutions to the pharmaceutical, automotive, watch-making, and medical devices industries. With a history steeped in Swiss precision and innovation, the company enables a broad range of customers from a variety of different industries to successfully optimise their manufacturing processes.

The History of the Company

Founded in the Swiss town of Biel/Bienne in 1908, MIKRON played a role in modernising the country's world renowned watch-making industry during the first half of the 20th century. Utilising revolutionary gear-cutting machines and various other cutting-edge tools, the company prospered and gradually expanded in other related fields. MIKRON acquired the other prominent Swiss manufacturers HAESLER and ALBE in the subsequent years, allowing the company to develop successfully and diversify their business. The company eventually went public in 1983, and within a few short years developed rapidly into a global player in the supply of machining and automation solutions for large volume and high precision production.

Products from MIKRON

MIKRON has a staff of about 1100 employees, which are shared between the two distinct divisions, MIKRON Automation and MIKRON Machining, which is manufacturing high-quality industrial machines for the metalworking industry. These divisions are located in Boudry and Agno, Switzerland, with other additional production facilities spread out across the globe. MIKRON currently has facilities in Germany (Berlin), Singapore, China (Shanghai), and the United States of America (Denver). In 2012 the two divisions of the company had combined sales revenue of approximately 235 million CHF, with about 10,000 systems installed over the course of their lifetime. One astonishing statistic is that MIKRON systems claim to produce 95% or all tips made for ballpoint pens worldwide.
