Descripción
This is an antique city map of Brussels, originally made by Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg for their famous atlas Civitates Orbis Terrarum, first published in 1572. The map shows a bird's-eye view of 16th-century Brussels, surrounded by the second city wall. In the cartouche at the bottom right is a Latin text that begins with: "Bruxella, urbs aulicorum frequentia, fontium copia, magnificentia..." (Brussels, a city with a numerous court, an abundance of springs, and regal splendor...). The original appeared in the first volume of the Civitates Orbis Terrarum, the world's first systematic atlas of city plans. Although the design dates from 1572, several editions and copies were printed in the course of the 16th and 17th centuries, including by LodovicoDrawing 17th century brussels
