BRANDT KDN210 Edgebander

Expertise in wood processing is primarily seen through the quality of the edging, where the inner structures of the wood are displayed in the light of day following the cutting process. Brandt Kantentechnik GmbH, founded in 1962, found its roots in a workshop from 1932, and has been manufacturing innovative edgebanders ever since. These machines help craftsmen and industrial wood processors to produce perfect edges in one work operation – on straight panel edges as well as oddly shaped surfaces on pieces shaped from wooden panels.

A cooperation agreement signed in 1970 with the HOMAG Group (then still referred to as Hornberger Maschinenbaugesellschaft OHG) led to a majority holding in the Heinrich Brandt Maschinenbau GmbH company, which then led to the acquisition of all shares by BRANDT KantentechnikGmbH in 2012. This affiliation can be seen in the brand emblem, which combines the BRANDT lettering with the HOMAG symbol. In 2014, the German technology company DÜRR – also a long-standing, traditional firm – was incorporated into the HOMAG Group AG to form the DÜRR Group.

The range of products on offer from BRANDT Kantentechnik GmbH consists of innovative, high-performance edge banding machines and finishing machines for use in the crafts and small- to mid-sized manufacturing companies.

In 2009, BRANDT introduced the fourth generation of machines with its Ambition, Highflex and profiLine series. After only six years, these series are replacing the KDN and KDF series models which, in turn, were successors to the successful KD series. The KD line edge banding machines can frequently be found on the second-hand machinery market, as can their most sold unit until 2002, the Optimat KD 56. These replaced the first BRANDT edge banding machines in 1990 – the KE, KA and KM series.

Brandt uses the following abbreviations (some based on the original German):

  • C: Corner copying unit (Contour)
  • F: Joint trimming unit
  • PVC: Buffing unit
  • Q: Pneumatic unit setting (Quicktronic)
  • U: Universal milling device
  • /2: Double edge-milling device

Current series of BRANDT edge banding machines compared to BRANDT table-top machines

BRANDT table-top machines

The most compact and flexible edge banding machines in the BRANDT Kantentechnik GmbH range are the table-top devices from the KTD series as well as the FKT series, which was specially designed for working on shaped parts. They stand out clearly from the other product lines thanks to their short length of less than 1.5 m and weight of around 300 kg. They are also the only unsealed BRANDT edge banding machines. They work on edge strips of between 0.4 and 3 mm in thickness and are designed for workpiece thicknesses between 16 and 55 mm.

BRANDT Ambition 1100

The fully encapsulated edge banding machines of the Ambition line start with the Brandt Ambition 1100 series. It contains four different models. They measure between 3.67 and 4.25 m in length and are equipped with a precision gluing unit, an automatic fixed-length magazine for rod- and rolled materials, a two-motor trimming unit, and a multi-functional flush milling unit. They also feature two slots in the finishing section, which can be equipped with a profile scraper, glue joint scraper or buffing unit. The C models also come fitted with a shaping cutter to cover every stage of processing.

BRANDT Ambition 1200

Edgebanders from the BRANDT Ambition 1200 line feature a much higher feed rate (11 instead of 8 m/min) compared to models from the 1100 series. Although seen as entry-level models, they are designed to be capable of performing every step in the production process. This can be seen in the joint and shaping cutter units, radius cutting blade, and glue joint blade, which come as standard. These machines are also capable of processing workpieces with thicknesses of 8 to 50 mm, which means the work range is also larger compared to models from the 1100 series.

BRANDT Ambition 1400

The BRANDT Ambition 1400 series marks the start of the mid-class edge banders. Additional features of these tool machines include optimised pre-heating of workpieces to ensure higher stability in the glued joins, pneumatically operated settings for shortening set-up times, as well as a nesting capability, which enables flexible modifications to made in line with special requirements.

BRANDT Ambition 1600

The models from the Ambition 1600 series are characterised by particularly powerful engines which provide feed rates of between 8 and 18 m/min. There are optional extras in this class of device, such as a pivotable grooving unit and a ‘quick-melt’ gluing unit. Edging featuring a thickness of up to 12 mm (and even 15 mm on request) can be processed using the 1600 series.

BRANDT Ambition 1800

The edge banders from the Ambition 1800 series are BRANDT’s answer to the requirements of industrial production. The most powerful models of the Ambition series can process workpieces up to 60 mm thick (80 mm on request) and operate with an adjustable feed rate of up to 20 m/min. Another feature which makes this series stand out is the four-motor shaping cutter unit, which comes as standard.

BRANDT Highflex

The BRANDT Highflex series stands for excellent flexibility thanks to the extensive equipment provided as well as the high level of automation. This includes workpiece gap optimisation, which increases the through-put that can be achieved by the edge banders.

BRANDT profiLine

With their profiLine series, BRANDT is finally giving customers full freedom in how they arrange their units. The edgebanding machines from this series are suited to being individually adapted to specific process sequences. The length of the machines varies accordingly - between 4.86 and 10.36 m. Models from the profiLine series can process edging up to 20 mm thick and workpieces up to 60 mm thick (in special versions, up to 100 mm is possible).
